Capability Statement

Through its special position as part of the main Swedish seed company, the former Svalöf Weibull Consulting Department had access to a wide range of expertise both within the company and in the official organisations concerned with seeds in Sweden.
When Svalöf Consulting took over this part of the business in 2006, it was able to inherit this substantial network of professional contacts and to continue to use them. As a result, Svalöf Consulting can provide a unique ‘single door access’ to the diverse technical and managerial skills required for plant breeding and seed industry development. Our team of consultants and associates can address each of the components of the seed chain and can interpret these to meet the needs of seed industries worldwide.
The core management team, based at Alnarp, comprises:
Rutger Persson Managing Director
Per Andersson Course Director and Project Manager
Marie Hardfors Course Administrator and Office Manager
Charmaine Lawrence-Persson Project Administration and Public Relations
On April 1st 2009, Svalof Consulting relocated to the campus of the Swedish Agricultural University (SLU), at Alnarp. This strengthens our well-established and successful cooperation with University for the provision of specialised international training programmes and the implementation of agricultural development projects. It enables both parties to create strong networks, facilitate contacts and use international experts in the most efficient way for short-term assignments, and long-term projects.
LONG TERM NATURAL RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
The establishment of Svalöf Consulting at Alnarp enables further expansion in the collaboration between SC and SLU, Alnarp in the present “Natural Resource Development”- project in Central Asia. Our joint resource base in plant breeding, biotechnology, chemical analysis combined with a knowledge of the various elements of a seed industry, makes a strong partnership for implementing future projects.
INTERNATIONAL COURSES
The Sida- financed training programme “Genetic Resources and Intellectual Property Rights” managed by SLU and administered by Svalöf Consulting will be held in May 2009, 2010 and 2011 at Alnarp. The campus environment allows the course participants to meet and develop contacts with students, lecturers and researchers in the University.
Our advanced training programme in “Plant Breeding and Seed Production”, also financed by Sida, will be conducted in September 2009 at the Alnarp Campus, will ease the cooperation between Svalöf Consulting and the Faculty of Landscape Planning, Horticulture and Agricultural Science where Svalöf Consulting will take advantage of the resources the Faculty has to offer in the form of prominent lecturers in the international training programmes.
THE SVALÖF ALUMNI
About 1000 participants from 70 different countries have been trained in Svalöv and this represents a unique resource that Svalöf Consulting has had and will continue to exploit in its future training programmes and project activities. A unique network has been created between professionals active in 3 different parts of the world that Svalöf Consulting is keen to maintain. Former participants are able to get information about ongoing and future Training Programmes and projects on the Svalöf Consulting website.
